PF - Night on duty.

180409

the night before Jayce's wedding night :D

we the pathfinders were somehow assigned to maintain the discipline of "a night of hope" concert in dewan sri pinang. It was certainly a happy, fun WONDERFUL experience.

So we leave at 7pm and the whole group of us pathfinders are divided into 2 groups. The backstage crew and the main entrance crew. I was backstage :D so I got to hear see and experience the wonderful musicians on stage. yippee!

FIRST OF ALL - let me tell you how awesome the violinist that day was. her first piece was just normal. But for her second piece, she donned a cowboy hat and started to play this really quick upbeat AWESOME piece. I was blown away.....literally...i was in awe. and the best thing was, when i told her I loved her playing, she just smiled at me and said "Praise God" :D :D :D A christian with talent. even better :D

but before all that performance, we had a task to do. move stage equipment ie. chairs, music stands, piano and choir stands. We were given a piece of paper with all the written requirements so it was easy. The positions of everything was labeled, so again, it was easy. Basically, we divided the job up depending on the number of items we were to carry out on stage.

It was funny really, because for the first half of the night, things that were required to be carried were light stuff like the chairs and music stands, so we got the girls to do that. While the other half we needed MUSCLE for the piano and the choir stands. so the guys did that.SOMEHOW, we forgot the fact that while the light things are being moved out, he curtains are still up, but for the heavier things, the curtains are down. SO, the guys got a little jealous that the audience gets to see the girls but not the guys. haha. PICKY. i knowwwww....and i argued that people don't actually see us anyway. BUT still,we sent some guys off to be seen by the audience too :) cooperation at its best!! (psssst. Ms. Davis said she saw me on stage when she went for the concert so we are actually seen!hahahha....sorry railey :P)

being backstag helpers, we hyper group of 9 had to also learn how to tone down the noise. it was tough, but because in pathfinders we learn respect and discipline, we did just that, and it was soooo cute to see everyone try to communicate without so much of a peep.

Pics below when there were breaks and we could make noise :P

Badminton - THE LAST

290309

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. the last badminton for the month and i'm not continuing next month. Going off for hols and don't have time to attend 4 times a month.

So once again, we played and played till we dropped dead. Haha. At least i did, and i learned today that I was holding my racket wrong. You see, when u drop ur racket to ur side, the racket is supposed to be alligned such that all is in a straight line. The way i was holding mine.........it was bent inwards. And I was gripping the handle to high. @@ was I doing everything wrong????

Anyway, practice makes perfect, more practice and I think i'll nail all that. :D

ANOTHER THING. (wow. didn't expect to learn so much on the LAST day) I learned how to hit harder and slight smashing. Use body weight to hit (bingo! got it) which means lean back before you hit. use your body's momentum to follow through with the smash. And on smashing, I learned that before you hit, you have to keep your arm straight, pull back, and hit it down, ending with arm in straight position. and of course, with the flick of the wrist and downward movement of racket. TADAA. smashing made easy. YEA RIGHT. takes more than just theoretical help to get me smashing. I NEED MORE PRACTICE. and i will! :) with my church buddies.

so here's to last day of badminton! ^_^

Pathfinders - week before holiday

120409

Even children have pre-vacation syndrome. Haha. next week is Jayce's wedding so the pathfinders and adventurer's have a weekend off. So today. attendance was 6! heh! used to be about 12 i think XP

so today, the poor kids were flooded with homework. They were to do journals and bring something special next week to show proof of what they did best (ie. wat mentioned last week) so basically, today we were just receiving homework and homework. the poor kids....it must be torture.......:(

but oh well. i had to leave early too. dinner with parents at 635.

NEXT WEEK IS JAYCE'S WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAITTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pathfinders - singing talent?

050409

Today we sang. and sang and sang and sang. hehe. I know my voice is good and i love to sing, but this made me even more inspired to sing. just cause the little kids were so awed at how i sing. HEHE. anyway, i helped them sing some songs they weren't famailiar with that I knew by heart. and its so funny.....cause alot of them are tone deaf @@ and there's this one kid, thaddeus that actually takes voice lessons and he aced the singinggggg......woooo.

after that, Aunty Maria asked the kids to write down what they were good at. AGAIN thaddeus had all these awesome attributes. Basketball, piano, violin, singing. TOO MUCH FOR A LITTLE KID. ARGH. and the others were just stuck with things like - helping other people, cheering people up, taking care of my pet.......but lucky though. children don't have inferiority complex :S haha. I was actually wondering why on earth did aunty maria do this activity? BOOSTING SELF CONFIDENCE. thats my conclusion :D

tadaa.....as if THOSE children lacked confidence XD
oh well. there's next week to go!

Pathfinders - Permanent

290309

Ok. Today aunty maria officially announced me as the assistant to the Helping Hands class. *beams with pride* and the children actually clapped. Aw.....i feel so welcome there.

Anyway, today we learned to love ourselves and each other.

The children were given these little tupperwares and they were to write "I love me" and "I love you" on them. The I love me was to be kept for themselves, and the other one was to be given to a loved one. how sweet. :) sometimes we just need to go back to the simple things in life to realise that life really isn't complicated at all. anyway, It all started when i decorated Gem's paper sheet. The kids all saw how nice it was and BOOM i became the official "interior designer" for them. HMMMMMMMMMMM.....they take advantage of me! but i don't mind. teaches me patience, how to handle countless hyperactive midgets at one time and love.

Here's how it is. I used pink red peach and clear nail polish to decorate the little tiny tupperwares. Some of my hearts were actually pretty nicely done! ahhahah....anyway, i ran out of ideas on deco, so i plucked a leaf off the garden in our church and pasted it down using the clear nail polish. and it looked good! wow! subconciously.....i am creative! LOL. anyway. this got all the little people running to find leaves. :D i am like a goddess to them nowww......hahahhaa

What touched me the most though.....was Ruth. :):):):) you know what she did? She actually looked at me and said "can i give this tupperware to you?" and she was referring to the "I love you" one. awwwwwww.......so sweet. so so sweet. :D but i told her. since i helped her make it. it would be better to share her love with other people who haven't seen it. ya? She agreed and gave it to her grandmother. HOW SWEEEEET. even little kids are so sweet. EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM <3

UES - Election Day

250309

As closing ceremony for the last meeting of the term, we had election day! Meaning, suzie is retiring and she needs brave fearless leaders to fill her shoes. none too big that is.

Candidates were:
Ivan
Douglas
Mark
Ryu
Michael
Carol

i think that was it.......hehe

WINNER!
President - Ivan
Vice President - Ryu

congrats to you both!

After which we made these really cute posters for Earth Hour advertising. At first we were pretty clueless about what to do. But we just went with the flow~~~~~ made a world with the world earth hour surrounding it. LAME i know. but it got the msg across didn't it?

So first, Mark started off by suggesting a 3D world. He used styrofoam. okkkkkk.....advantages of being a DT student. thn we painted green spots on it for the land in our globe. BUT to get the globe stuck onto the plastic boards we used as the posters we couldn't use the normal spray on adhesive OR the stinky smelling glue. BUT somehow, under my nagging and constant debating! (lol) the combination of both was attempted and succeeded in sticking it down.

Time was runnign short, so we quickly painted a few "earth hour" words in white on the board, drew a humonguos one across the whole board and did a bit of patterns here and there. It was all teamwork. :)

THE END PRODUCT.
